Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is:
Evidence based
Research shows that our strategies are effective at making changes in behaviors and helping develop skills for those with autism, as well as many other populations.
Socially significant
We focus on skills that are going to have the most impact on a person’s life. These include decreasing harmful or disruptive behaviors and increasing communication, social, coping and adaptive skills.
Individualized
No two people are the same, so no two treatment plans should be the same. We consider age, developmental level, family culture, as well as many other things when developing treatment plans.
Intensive
ABA therapy is more intensive than other therapies. It is usually recommended that individuals receive 20 to 40 hours of therapy per week. This will vary based on each individual’s needs and is based on the recommendations of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, after an assessment has been completed.
ABA therapy also requires parent participation. Since our goal is to teach socially significant skills, parents and other caregivers need to be trained so that they can help support these skills outside of the clinic.
